Table Rock Lake Fishing Report
Two fishing patterns are currently producing results. On most days schools of bass can be found off main lake points at 25 – 45 feet deep either near the bottom or suspended over deeper water where submerged structure such as tree-tops are at that depth. Jigging shad colored grubs (clear or gray with black or silver specs), tube jigs or spoons at the right depth will catch these fish. You’ll need to use a 1/4 oz. jig head and 10 – 12 lb. Test line to properly work the bait at those depths. Pay close attention, as the strikes are not as hard as during the warmer months.

On some warmer, sunny days some bass are moving onto shorelines to forage along the sides of main lake points and deep coves off the main lake or large branches. Wind blown banks will be most productive. These fish can be found at 7 – 19 feet deep either near the bottom or suspended in tree-tops over deeper water. Use a deep-diving crank bait, such as a magnum wiggle wart (crawdad color) or shad rap, with 8 – 10 lb. test line to catch bass on the banks. Crank hard when the lure hits the water to get it down to the right depth, then work it back slow and steady since the bass are slower due to the cooler winter temperatures. You can also pick up these fish with a grub or tube jig and 1/8 oz. jig head worked slowly along the bottom. Use lighter line, 6 – 8 lb. test, in this case. Again, pay close attention, as the strikes are not as hard as during the warmer months.

The bass that are suspended over tree-tops in deeper water off the banks can be picked up using a deep-diving suspending rebel or rogue. Cast past the trees and crank down hard when the lure hits the water to get it down to the right depth. Work it back slowly and with an erratic jerking action by the trees, even pausing beside the trees, imitating an injured minnow. The strike is often during the pause and you’ll find a nice bass jerking back on your line when you start to crank again.
